President Joe Biden

“Today, I make this sacred pledge to you... the defense, protection, and preservation of American democracy will remain, as it has been, the central cause of my presidency.

“America, as we begin this election year, we must be clear,” Biden said. “Democracy is on the ballot. Your freedom is on the ballot.” “The alternative to democracy is dictatorship—the rule of one, not the rule of ‘We the People.’”

“Together, we can keep proving that America is still a country that believes in decency, dignity, honesty, honor, truth,” he said. “We still believe that no one, not even the President, is above the law…. [T]he vast majority of us still believe that everyone deserves a fair shot at making it. We’re still a nation that gives hate no safe harbor…. We still believe in ‘We the People,’ and that includes all of us, not some of us.”

--President Joe Biden, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania January 5, 2024

Rebecca Lloyd, Clear Creek County Commissioner, District 2

Hello, friends, neighbors, and all Clear Creek County residents.  I am Rebecca Lloyd, and I am running to become your County Commissioner from District 2 in this November’s election.   I have lived in Clear Creek for almost 32 years and am running to help our County protect its people and our quality of life and preserve our beautiful mountain communities and lands.

My background includes working as a trial attorney for the US Department of Justice, private sector corporate counsel, on legislative matters at the EPA, and as a PTA Member and volunteer in our Clear Creek schools.  I retired from my legal practice during the pandemic and am committed to working full-time for the good of the County.

My experience in law, business, and the community gives me the skill set to be an effective County Commissioner.  I know the importance of working hard to understand the facts and issues to help the County and avoid unintended consequences of governmental actions.

While your commissioners come from the eastern, middle, and western parts of Clear Creek County, they represent the interests of the County as a whole, and the whole County elects each.  Therefore, I have been traveling across our County to attend community meetings, meet with businesses in the county, ride along with the Clear Creek Sheriff’s Patrol, meet with community leaders, and attend the County Commissioner meetings in order to learn about the issues facing our County.  To further expand my understanding of Clear Creek County issues, please let me know about your concerns.

You can contact me via my website:  RebeccaforClearCreek.com.

Jodie Hartman-Ball
Clear Creek County Commissioner, District 3

To my Neighbors and fellow constituents, my name is Jodie Hartman-Ball, a 3rd generation Colorado Native. I am excited to run for Clear Creek County Commissioner in District 3 for 2024!

I was raised in Idaho Springs, graduated from Clear Creek School District, and raised my four children here. I now have grandchildren growing up in this great county. I have been an active community member since 1986!

  • I helped rebuild the playground at Carlson Elementary School

  • I have been a Cub Scout Leader, youth baseball coach, fundraiser, and school volunteer for over 30 years

  • Neighborhood organizer

  • Clear Creek Community Connector

  •  Precinct organizer for the Democratic Party

  •  Worked for the US Census Bureau

  • Former Clear Creek County Foster Parent and operated a licensed childcare facility

  • Studied early childhood development at Red Rocks Community College

There are many challenges that CC faces, and I feel many of our voices have been left behind over the years. Concerns from Evergreen to the Divide need to be addressed. We need to continue to balance change while protecting our beautiful surroundings. We need affordable housing, childcare, and elderly services.  Growth needs to be managed, and the current residents should have some protections for their way of life. Folks shouldn't have to worry about being displaced should developers come in to make a quick buck.

Are you tired of seeing your tax dollars go to the big governments down the hill only to see nothing in return? We need representatives to fight to bring those dollars back to our communities. I am standing up and fighting for everyone, especially for those whose voices haven’t traditionally been heard.

Lesley Smith, House District 49

Hello Clear Creek County Democrats! My name is Lesley Smith. I’m a former aquanaut and Boulder Valley school board member. I’m an environmental scientist with a 30-year career at the University of Colorado and your CU Regent at-Large.

Special interest groups and corporations have too much power at the Capitol. I’m running to take that power back and put it into the hands of the people. As your next state representative, I will fight to protect our climate and our public lands. I will prioritize education, affordability, and the environment, taking a scientific and progressive approach to our pressing challenges.

Most importantly, I believe that constituent’s voices matter, and I will work for the voters of HD-49 to champion the most pressing issues to our district. My endorsers, including Congressman Neguse, Senator Roberts, Representative Amabile, and County Commissioner Marlin, know I have the experience and skills to get things done.

Please visit my website to learn more about me, my platform, and my long list of endorsements. You can always email me and let me know the issues that are top of mind to you.

Elliott Hood, University of Colorado Board of Regents, At-Large

Hello Clear Creek Democrats!

My name is Elliott Hood, and I am running for the at-large seat on the University of Colorado Board of Regents. The Regents govern the CU system, overseeing its four campuses, with responsibilities ranging from approving the $6 billion budget to setting tuition and establishing university-wide policies and laws. The at-large seat is a pivotal position that will determine whether the Democrats keep their majority on the board, and this race happens to be the only statewide race this year besides the president.

This is one of the most important public education leadership jobs in the state, and I am proud to have dedicated my professional life to public education. I have been a public school teacher; I have helped lead an education non-profit; and currently I am an education attorney representing public-school districts across Colorado. I have also helped lead public boards, so I understand board governance very well.

if elected, my priorities will be to make CU more affordable, get guns out of our classrooms, set university-wide climate goals, and support collective bargaining for CU workers, among other things.

I am proud to be endorsed by over 100 elected officials across Colorado, including Senator Dylan Roberts, Representative Judy Amabile, and every other elected Democrat from the Western Slope and Mountains in the state legislature.

I appreciate the support from all corners of Colorado.
This at-large race is the only statewide contest this year, providing a unique opportunity for your vote alongside the presidential election. I encourage you to learn more about my campaign at www.hoodforcolorado.com or by calling 312-607-9295.
I look forward to earning your support at the upcoming caucus, county and state assembly, and the primary election on June 25!

With a commitment to CU that spans 35 years from student government to athletic director to my current role as a member of the Board of Trustees, my drive to provide greater access and opportunities for all students is well established. Currently as the Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Ball Corporation, I tirelessly advocate for equal opportunity and access for all.
