DENVER - The federal government’s decision this week to freeze child care, food assistance, and child welfare funds is the latest proof that Washington is no longer a reliable partner for Colorado’s kids and families. From devastating cuts to SNAP and Medicaid in H.R. 1, to impounding K–12 funds before school started, freezing food assistance around Thanksgiving, creating arbitrary and dangerous vaccine recommendations, and driving up health insurance premiums, the message is unmistakable: the federal government is actively undermining children’s well-being here in Colorado. Colorado’s members of Congress must demand that the federal government live up to its commitments to Colorado’s kids and families. This moment demands more than pushing back on the White House; it demands leadership here at home. Colorado must chart its own path forward by building modern, flexible systems that protect kids no matter what happens in Washington. Our 2026 Policy Priorities lay out that path forward, protecting kids through affordable health coverage, vaccine access, strong safety nets, child care, and fully funded schools. We call on Colorado’s Governor and Legislature to act on these priorities now. ### About the Colorado Children’s Campaign: The Colorado Children’s Campaign is a non-partisan organization committed to making Colorado the best place to be a kid and raise a kid. We use data and research to identify what kids across our state need most, then advocate for policies that strengthen their well-being and help them thrive. Our focus is the whole child, working across Early Childhood, K-12 Education, Health, and Economic Security for the greatest long-term impact. For more information, please visit ColoradoKids.org. |
