Preparing for the No Kings March on October 18

ree

The Idaho Springs No Kings Protest and March will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on the Highway 103 bridge, Highway 103, and I-70.  Join us.

Here is a message from the national No Kings team:

No Kings Activists,

The No Kings protest is this weekend; can you feel the excitement?

RSVPs have nearly doubled in just a week’s time. This movement is strong, resilient, and ready to remind the world that, in this country, we have no kings!

Here’s the truth: The Trump Administration wants the people to be scared. Whether they’re cutting jobs, deploying ICE and the National Guard, or ripping away healthcare from hardworking families, this administration wants us to fear: for our bank accounts, for our freedom, for our health, and more.

But when we gather on Saturday, it will be a reminder that fear cannot win when we choose to live with joy. Joy is the active decision in the face of oppression that renders their tactics useless. So let’s go out there and show them that our spirits cannot be broken.

Bring your friends and family, and let’s have a good time getting into some peaceful “good trouble.” Here are some things to help you get ready:

Before No Kings Day:

  • Watch our Attendee Best Practices video. Get oriented to the basics of how to prepare for and navigate through your No Kings protest in less than four minutes. The best way to promote joy is by making sure you’re acting in a way that keeps everyone around you safe.

  • Use these graphics to change your profile picture on social media. We need to continue to build momentum around this movement. Make it unavoidable. Make it the thing to do. The last thing we want to hear is members of our own community saying, “I didn’t know it was happening.” Spread the word.

  • Invite your friends and family to join in the fun. There is a No Kings Day event within driving distance anywhere a person may be across the country. Find an event near your loved ones, send the information to them, and ask them to be a part of this movement. Bonus: You can promise to swap pictures during the event to give them a little extra motivation to go.

On No Kings Day:

  • Wear yellow to your No Kings event. People around the world have used color to show collective strength in the face of oppression throughout history. Our movement is no different: We align ourselves with this historic context while taking a step into our shared future. Think of it as a shared symbol. It does not need to be an entire outfit (but it could be 😀). A bandana, a hat, a shirt -- any bright pop of yellow will work perfectly.

  • Raise your voice peacefully & follow directions. Bring a sign, lead some chants, and connect with your neighbors and community at your event. Remember that all events are peaceful and non-violent, so we look to de-escalate any situations that arise. Follow the directions of your local host and their safety marshal team.

  • Share pictures and video with #NoKings. Though we want everyone to be able to make it out to their local No Kings Day, we know some people won’t be able to. Let’s make sure they can share in the full experience of the day by following along on social media.

After No Kings Day:

Join the What’s Next After No Kings Mass Call on Tuesday, October 21, at 8pm ET/5pm PT. No Kings will be massive, powerful, and meaningful -- but it won’t be the end of our work. Join movement leaders and fellow local activists after the big day to come together, celebrate what we accomplished, and learn about what’s next.

Oppression thrives in isolation. Authoritarianism is strongest when the people feel as if they don’t have a voice. On Saturday, we will take to the streets to remind people in every corner of this country, and the world, that we are not alone. We will not be quiet. And we will choose joy.

See you in the streets,

The No Kings Team
