The "No Kings" gathering happened on June 14 to protest the Trump Administration’s usurping of Flag Day and the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary to stage an empty spectacle celebrating his 79th Birthday. The Clear Creek Democratic Party held a rally and march through the streets of Idaho Springs to reaffirm our national values of freedom and equality, while in Washington, D.C., Trump and his cronies spent 25 million taxpayer dollars to mount a military parade more suited for the leaders of the Kremlin than for the President of the United States.
In Clear Creek County, 135 people gathered at the Highway 103 Bridge. They marched along Miner Street to the Idaho Springs City Hall to protest the Trump Administration’s priorities and to show solidarity with communities across Colorado. Citizens from as far away as Cedar Ridge, in Delta County, joined in the peaceful gathering to reclaim American values and affirm that the United States does not have a king.
The purpose of the No Kings events was summarized by Tiffany Weber, founder of Solidarity Warriors:
The event aims to foster solidarity and community among activists and organizations in the state of Colorado. We aim to capitalize on the momentum of a large protest by connecting people with organizations that align with their interests and motivating them to take action.
The No Kings protests differ from Hands Off! in their messaging as well as the urgency of the situation, particularly in relation to the Marines deployed to Los Angeles to police American Citizens. However, it's not just that Trump is deploying the military to Los Angeles to assist ICE agents. It's that he's doing it to distract from the "Death Bill" as many are now calling it (the BBB funding bill). (We started calling it the Death Bill after Joni Ernst showed that Republicans couldn’t care less about the 16 million people who will have their health care ripped away, the 7 million people, including 2 million children, who will have food ripped from their mouths, and those who will literally die without it.)
Trump is also trying to distract from the fact that he is disappearing immigrants and, in some cases, citizens through ICE raids and imprisoning people with no criminal record in foreign gulags.
Thousands of people across Colorado took to the streets on June 14 to reclaim our nation from the immoral and power-hungry in Washington. The Clear Creek gathering and march were conducted peacefully and without incident.
The March Continues
The march continues on the fourth Friday of the Month throughout the Summer. “Fight-Back Fridays” gather at the traffic circle on the east side of Idaho Springs, 2950 Colorado Blvd. 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The next gathering is scheduled for June 27.
Also, come march with the Clear Creek Democratic Party at the annual Georgetown 4th of July parade. We will assemble at the corner of 11th and Rose streets, P863+HQ Georgetown, Colorado, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and march at 11:00 a.m. See the Events page for more information.
